Sources

Source: NCES Common Core of Data 2024-25 and F-33 finance 2020, via the Urban Institute Education Data Portal. Last reviewed October 2026.

Coverage

The site covers 100,237 open public schools and 19,630 districts and education agencies in the 50 states, DC, the US territories, the Bureau of Indian Education and the Department of Defense Education Activity. Closed, inactive and future schools are excluded.

Rules

Names

Source names are often in capitals or abbreviated. For display we convert them to title case and expand common abbreviations (for example "H S" to High School and "EL" to Elementary). Where a district name is only a place name, we show it as "County Public Schools" when it matches the county, or otherwise add "School District". The original name is shown on the page. Web addresses use the source identifiers unchanged.

Find my school district

The ZIP code lookup lists districts that have a school or district office with that ZIP code in their NCES address. It is not a boundary map.
