How to read these results
ZIP codes can cross school district lines. A single ZIP code may be split between two, three or more districts, and the boundary can run down the middle of a street. Our lookup lists every district that has a school or a district office with an address in the ZIP code. It does not draw district boundaries, and we do not invent them.
For the official answer for a specific address, contact the district's enrollment or registration office, or use the NCES school district locator, which maps district boundaries from the Census Bureau. The NCES public school search finds individual schools.
Results can also include charter agencies, regional service agencies and state-run schools. These operate schools in the area but do not usually assign students by address.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find out what school district I live in?
Enter your ZIP code above to see the districts that have schools or offices in it. Because ZIP codes often cross district lines, confirm your exact address with the district, or use the NCES school district locator, which maps district boundaries.
Can one ZIP code be in more than one school district?
Yes. ZIP codes are drawn for mail delivery, not for schools. Many ZIP codes are split between two or more districts, so a ZIP code search can only narrow the list.
Does my address decide which school my child attends?
In most districts, your home address determines an assigned (zoned) school. Many districts also offer choice, magnet, charter or transfer options. The district's enrollment office has the official answer.
Are charter schools part of my school district?
Sometimes. In some states charter schools belong to the local district; in others each charter is its own education agency. Charter agencies can appear in ZIP results here because they run schools in that ZIP code.
